Added farmers market

The Cedar Rapids Downtown District is bringing back a second Downtown Farmers’ Market on Saturday, August 16. After a post-flood first market return Aug. 2 of 148 vendors and 8,500 patrons, the Downtown District is bringing back one of the Midwest’s largest open air markets for a second August date.

The  Aug. 16 market will be located in Greene Square Park and surrounding areas along Fifth Street SE. Parking ramps will be free and open for public use.

Entertainment will include a cooking demonstration by Daniel Arthurs, with main stage performances by Kevin BF Burt,  Theatre Cedar Rapids, Dances with Scissors, and Movmnt Dance Company.  Other entertainment will include balloon animals, story time with the CR Public Library, and a special performance from Junk Funk and Kalimbaman.  Sponsors include Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust, Cedar Rapids Public Library Foundation, and the Eastern Iowa Airport. Media support includes The Gazette, WMT AM, Z102.9, and 1600 ESPN.

The return of the Downtown Farmers’ Markets is one piece of the Rebuild Downtown campaign-stressing the importance of reinvesting and revitalizing the downtown community, post flood. Shirts and information will be available at the market.
